Abraham was very old in Genesis chapter 15.
A.Using Bishop Ussher's dating, the confirmation of the Abrahamic Covenant in Genesis 15 vv.5 & 18 was in 1876BC, and the exodus of the enslaved Hebrews from Egypt in Exodus 15 was in 1446BC, thus making it a period of 430 years. However, Genesis 15:13 also says Abraham's descendents would be enslaved for 400 years:-Gen 15:12-13 (HCSB)Gen 15 (v.12) As the sun was setting, a deep sleep fell on Abram, and suddenly great terror and darkness descended on him. Gen 15 (v.13) Then the LORD said to Abram [later renamed Abraham], "Know this for certain: Your offspring will be foreigners in a land that does not belong to them; they will be enslaved and oppressed 400 years. This difference of 30 years between 400 and 430 years just means that they were not enslaved for the first 30 years.
In Genesis chapter 17 Genesis 17:16 And I (God) will bless her (Sarah) and also give you (Abraham) a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her."
This was before Abraham had his name changed: Gen 12:1 The LORD said to Abram, "Leave your country, your relatives, and your father's home, and go to a land that I am going to show you.
According to Genesis chapter 12:4 says that Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran. This is consistent with the various ages associated with key events in the life of Abram, later known as Abraham. Genesis 17:17 says that Abraham was exactly 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old when Isaac was born.Even when Abraham died, his age points to the secret use of numerology based on the number 17:Abraham lived to 175 (5 X 5 X 7)Isaac lived to 180 (6 X 6 X 5)Jacob lived to 147 (7 X 7 X 3Each lifespan involves a perfect square (5, 6, then 7 in a numeric series),the third factor also forms a series (7, 5, 3)in each case the sum of the factors is 17.
1) Genesis 12:2 "And the Lord said to Abram: 'Leave your country, and your birthplace, and your father's house, and go to the land that I will show you." 2) Genesis 12:7 "And the Lord appeared to Abram, and said: 'To your seed I will give this land'; and he built there an altar unto the Lord, who had appeared to him." 3) Genesis 13:14-15 "And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had left him: 'Lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; for all the land which you see, to you I will give it, and to your seed forever.' " 4) Genesis 15:1 "After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying: 'Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be exceedingly great.' " 5) Genesis 15:7 "And He said unto him: 'I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chasdim, to give you this land to inherit it.' " 6) Genesis 15:13 "And He said unto Abram: 'Know surely that your seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years.' " 7) Genesis 15:18 "In that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: 'To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates.' " 8) Genesis 17:1 "And when Abram was ninety nine years old, the Lord appeared to him, and said unto him: 'I am God Almighty; walk before Me, and be wholehearted.' " 9) Genesis 18:1 "And the Lord appeared unto him by the terebinths of Mamre, as he sat at the tent-opening in the heat of the day." 10) Genesis 21:12 "And God said unto Abraham: 'Let it not be grievous in your eyes because of the lad, and because of your maidservant. In all that Sarah says unto you, hearken to her voice; for through Isaac shall seed be called to you.' " 11) Genesis 22:1 "And it came to pass after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said unto him: 'Abraham'; and he said: 'Here I am.' "
It comes from the conversation between God and Abram - regarding his offspring, at a time when Abram was elderly and childless.
Genesis 15 verses 2
Chapter 15.
Abram Elam is 29 years old (birthdate: October 15, 1981).
He was 75 years old but his name was Abram until he was 99 years old. Genesis 12:1-4 "Now the LORD had said to Abram, Depart from your country, and from your kindred, and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you: (2) And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing: (3) And I will bless them that bless you, and curse him that curses you: and in you shall all families of the earth be blessed. (4) So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken to him, and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed from Haran." Genesis 17:1-5 "And when Abram was ninety and nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said to him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be you perfect. (2) And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly. (3) And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, (4) As for me, behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. (5) Neither shall your name any more be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made you."
At three years of age the ram, heifer and goat would have been at their prime as far as health, wellness and age.
According to tradition, sixteen years passed between the two events.
Genesis chapter 17 is a turning point in the biblical narrative. It gives reasons for changing Abram's name to Abraham and Sarai's name to Sarah, and a justification for circumcision. This passage contains the Priestly ('P' source) version of the covenant between God and Abraham, which can be compared with the older version from the Yahwist ('J' source), found in Genesis chapter 15. It eliminates earlier ambiguity by saying that the covenant with Abraham will only be through his son Isaac, thus removing the Arab people from the biblical promise. For more information on the events of this and other passages in Genesis, please see: http://christianity.answers.com/bible/the-book-of-genesis

Eliezer, often identified as the servant of Abraham (Abram), is said to have come from Damascus. In the biblical narrative, particularly in Genesis 15:2, Abram refers to Eliezer as his "head servant" and notes that he is a descendant of his household. This highlights Eliezer's significant role in Abram's life, particularly in the context of seeking a suitable wife for Abram's son Isaac.
it is mentioned in the Cain and abel story in genesis, i think its in chapter 4 (just like the song chapter 4)
