No. Mount Moriah is where Solomon built the temple. (2. Chron 3,1) Golgotha is where Jesus was crucified. However Golgotha is only 300 meters away from the entrance of the Temple and from Golgotha everyone gathered there saw the miracle as Jesus died that the temple curtain ripped.

It is a misunderstanding that Abraham sacrificed his son on Mount Moriah. He himself named the mount where the sacrifice occured 'Jhwh Jireh'.

And Abraham called the name of that place JHWH Jireh as it is said to this day, In the mount the LORD is seen. Gen 22,14

This verse also gives two clues to which mount about Jerusalem on which he sacrificed his son.

1. He called it Jhwh Jireh (The LORD sees)

2. In this mount the LORD is seen.

There is only one mount about Jerusalem which meets these two clues.

Clue 1:

In Gen 22 the LORD personifies himself with this mount. He is seen in this mount, for the mount at that time appeared like a groomed head (thickets were there which caught the horns of the widder). Later because of the disobedience of Israel this beautiful head turned bald and today appears like a skullpan.

Golgotha has its name, because it looks like a skullpan. (greek word Kranion - Cranium)

He is seen in this mount because the mount appears like a head. (see link)

Clue 2:

He sees from this mount because it is looking directly at the north side of the altar, where the offerings were killed (such as the passover lamb, the daily sacrifices, etc...)

And he shall kill it on the north side of the altar before the LORD : and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall sprinkle his blood round about upon the altar. Lev 1,11

The north side of the altar is directly in the sight of the LORD, being personified by the mount which looks like the top of a head. All other sides of the altar are not. Also directly before the LORD is the entrance of the temple.

If his offering be a burnt offering of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD. Lev 1,3

As Jesus died on JHWH Jireh, that same mount on which Abraham sacrificed Isaac, those on Golgotha saw the curtain rip on mount Moriah just on the other side of the wall of Jerusalem.

Where the start. You start by saying no. So right off the bat you are wrong. Your answer is then defended by unrelated scripture. Where Solomon built his temple has nothing to do with these being the same location

Your translation of Genesis 22:14 is completely wrong. It means the lord will provide not the Lord sees.

Yes, they are the same mount.

In Matt 27,33, Mk 15,22, Lk 23,33 and Joh 19,17 the word 'Calvary (latin Calvariae) appears in the Latin Vulgate translation. Some English translations used this latin word instead of the word 'skull', directly from the latin Vulgate. To be more precise, in latin Calvariae means the 'top part (skull-pan) of the skull'.

Origin, one of the Early Church Fathers, identifies Golgotha, the hill on which Jesus was crucified, as looking like the top part of the skull.

A spot there is called Golgotha,-of old the fathers' earlier tongue thus called its name, "The skull-pan of a head:" Origin Against Marcion Book II 259

To see a picture of Golgotha, shaped like the skull-pan of a head, refer to the link below.

Golgotha does not mean the same as Calvary. Golgotha is the name of the place where Jesus was crucified, while Calvary is basically saying 'skullcap'.

And when they were come to the place which is called Caluarie, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Lk 23,33 Original 1611 KJV

And bearing his own cross, he went forth to that place which is called Calvary, but in Hebrew Golgotha. Jn 19,17 Douay-Rheims Bible

Parallel comparisons of Matt 27,33:

And when they were come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

And they came to the place that is called Golgotha, which is the place of Calvary.

και ελθοντες εις τοπον λεγομενον γολγοθα ο εστιν λεγομενος κρανιου τοπος

et venerunt in locum qui dicitur Golgotha quod est Calvariae locus

The Latin vulgate was tested to meet the desires of the catholic church which has become one of the largest and most influencial apostate religions in the world misleading millions from the truth with their worship of a false christ. And Idolotry.

Golgotha is that same hill where Abraham sacrificed his son Isaac. Did not Abraham travel three days to go to the place in the land of Moriah that the LORD was to show him? In this very special way the LORD not only showed where Jesus would one day be sacrificed, but on Golgotha the LORD made his two most important oaths.

The mount where Abraham sacrificed Isaac was not Moriah, but JHWH Jireh, named by Abraham himself on the selfsame day. Mount Moriah, just 300 meters away, has been mistakenly confused with the place where Abraham sacrificed his son for over two thousand years. Please refer to the link below for a picture of Golgotha (JHWH Jireh) as the top part of a skull.

And Abraham called the name of that place JHWH Jireh as it is said to this day, In the mount the LORD is seen. Gen 22,14

This verse identifies the mount on which Abraham sacrificed his son. In this mount the LORD is seen. There is only one mount which appears like the top of a head in the area of Jerusalem, and this is Golgotha. Because of how JHWH Jireh dried up Israel to be a wilderness during the hard judgments, JHWH Jireh has looked for more than two thousand years more like a skull than a head. At the time of Abraham the mount had thickets on it. (Gen 22,13).

The LORD personifies himself with this mount, first of all by its appearance, but second of all by where the head is looking. And that is what the name 'JHWH Jireh' means, 'The LORD sees'. And what does the LORD see? The head is looking at the north side of the altar and at the temple entrance.

And he shall kill it on the north side of the altar before the LORD : and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall sprinkle his blood round about upon the altar. Lev 1,11

And he shall bring the bullock to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD ; and shall lay his hand upon the bullock's head, and kill the bullock before the LORD . Lev 4,4

Every time the north side of the altar or the door of the tabernacle are referred to, they are mentioned as being before the LORD. Everything done on the south side of the altar was never mentioned as being before the LORD.

It is possible that the mount where the temple was built already had the name Mount Moriah in the days of Abraham. But the LORD did not tell him to sacrifice Isaac on Mount Moriah, but rather on the mount the LORD would point out to him.

And he said, Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mounts which I will tell you of. Gen 22,2

Both hills, Moriah and JHWH Jireh, have the same height. There is a valley of about 300 meters between them. In this valley the wall of Jerusalem was built, and Mount Moriah was within the city limits while JHWH Jireh was outside the city.

In the days of David, as he numbered Israel, a death angel approached Jerusalem. It was still outside its borders as David hurried and built the altar. The LORD stood above the threshing floor (1.Chr.21,15), on the side of Mount Moriah towards the outside of the city (a threshing floor would not be at the top of a mount simply because of the extra effort of having to carry the wheat up the hill to thresh it). This would have been in this valley on the east side of Mount Moriah, where later the altar was built (but higher up the mount).

Is Mount Moriah the same as Golgotha?

Moriah is not the same as Golgotha, but they are very near each other (ca. 300 meters) and have the same height. And the skull of Golgotha is looking directly at Moriah. (see www.golgotha.eu for a picture and information concerning the relationship between Golgotha and Moriah)And he said, Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mounts which I will tell you of. Gen 22,2As Abraham had arrived in the land of Moriah (area of Jerusalem), the LORD showed him one of the mounts. Abraham did not know where this mount was, though he did know where the land of Moriah was.The sacrifice altar that Abraham made to offer his son as a burnt offering was done on the mount he named 'JHWH Jireh' ('The LORD sees').And Abraham called the name of that place JHWH Jireh as it is said to this day, In the mount the LORD is seen. Gen 22,14After traveling three days the LORD showed his friend Abraham the mount where his son would one day be offered as a burnt offering. The LORD knew that if he didn't literally stop Abraham at the last second, he would most certainly have killed his son, for through his faith he was confident that the LORD would raise him up from the dead. He was thereby given a very clear revelation of the death and resurrection of Jesus at the very place where Jesus would one day die on the cross. What evidence is there in the scriptures that Golgotha is JHWH Jireh, and not Moriah? Abraham made this mount known to the people in his day, and that is why is was said of this mount even to the days of Moses (as it is said to this day...) 'In the mount the LORD is seen.' Even until the days of Moses people knew of this mount and referred to it as the mount in which the LORD was seen. Is it not likely that it was the shape of this Mount which caused the people to regard it as the Mount in which the LORD is seen?Later, because of the sin of Israel, the land became a wilderness and the mount in which the LORD was seen changed its appearance to looking more like a skull than a groomed head. Slowly as knowledge of this mount was lost, it was no longer called 'JHWH Jireh' but Golgotha (aramaic - skull) and Kranion (greek - cranium (upper part of skull)).But what connection then do the words 'JHWH Jireh' (the LORD sees) have with the mount? What does the LORD see? In Lev. 1 it is written 'And he shall kill it on the north side of the altar before the LORD'. And again 'he shall offer it... at the door of the temple... before the LORD.' The LORD sees the north side of the altar and the LORD sees the door of the temple, for they are both before the LORD, who is personified in the mount which looks like his head, looking directly at the altar and the southern door of the temple. In the days of David the wall of Jerusalem separated Mount Moriah from Golgotha (JHWH Jireh).Jesus was not crucified in the city, at the temple built on Moriah, but rather just outside the city, with a good view of the temple entrance, testified to by those standing on Golgotha seeing the temple veil rip, especially the centurion. Now Jesus, shouting again with a loud voice, yielded up the Spirit. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; ... Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they trembled greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. Matt 27,51So Jesus, sending out a loud cry, expired. And the curtain of the temple was ripped in two from top to bottom. Now seeing this, the centurion, standing opposite from him, how that in this way he expired, said, Truly this man was the Son of God. Mk 15,37And the curtain of the temple was ripped in the middle. And having cried with a loud voice, Jesus said, Father, into your hands I commit my spirit. And having said this, he expired. Now the centurion, seeing what happened, glorified God, saying, Certainly this man was righteous. Lk 23,45f-47The Gospels testify that Jesus died at the very moment the curtain ripped. If someone saw the curtain rip, it could not be testified to that it happened at the very moment Jesus died unless this person was able to see both events at the same time.Mount Moriah is the Mount on which the temple was built (2.Chron 3,1) where today the Dome of the Rock exists. On Mount Moriah the temple faced east.Golgotha is the Mount on which Jesus was crucified. He said that, and bowed his head, and gave up his Spirit. And immediately the face of the door of the temple was rent into two parts from top to bottom... And the officer of the footsoldiers, and they that were with him who were guarding Jesus, when they saw the earthquake, and the things which came to pass, feared greatly, and praised God, and said, This man was righteous; and, Truly he was the Son of God. And all the multitudes that were come together to the sight, when they saw what came to pass, returned and smote upon their breasts. Diatessaron 52,2(160-175 AD).

Was King Solomon Temple built on Mount Mariah?

The First Temple (built by Solomon) and the Second Temple (built by Nehemiah under direction of Ezra, then greatly improved by Herod the Great) were built in the same location (Mount Zion/Mount Moriah) in Jerusalem.

Are Mount Moriah and Mount Zion the same mountain?

Answer 1They are two 'mounts' next to each other.Mt Zion was a Jebusite stronghold captured by David (1Kings 8:1; 1Chronicles 11:5) (2Samuel 5:6, 7, 9) which became his royal residence (Psalm 2:6). When the Ark of the Covenant was transferred there it became especially holy to God. (2Samuel 6:17).Mt Moriah was north of Zion, where the Temple was built during Solomon's reign. Eventually the term "Holy Mountain" and "ZION" came to refer to the combined area of Zion and Moriah, Jerusalem itself.(Isaiah 66:20).[Comment moved to Discussion Section.]Answer 2Yes and No.Historically, Mount Zion was used interchangeably with Mount Moriah. Both referred to the Temple Mount/Foundation Stone where the Dome of the Rock Shrine currently sits. It is in this location that the Jebusites had their fortress, David had his palace in close proximity, and Solomon built the Temple.About 2000 years ago, Judeans started referring to a second mountain, to the southwest of the Temple Mount as Mount Zion. This mountain is currently located to the south of the Armenian Quarter and is still called Mount Zion. They stopped using the term "Mount Zion" to refer to the Temple Mount and instead used Mount Moriah to exclusively refer to that.

Are Golgotha and the mountain where Abraham to Issac to be sacrificed one and the same places?

Yes they are!The Father and Son relationship between Abraham and Isaac reflects the Father and Son relationship between Jesus and his Father.Just as Isaac carried the Wood on which he was to be burnt as a sacrifice, so did Jesus carry his cross. Most Jews today believe that Abraham sacrificed Isaac on Mount Moriah, its base being over 200 meters southwest from Golgotha, but the Scriptures did not say that Abraham sacrificed his son on Moriah itself, but on the Mount which the LORD showed Abraham in the land of Moriah. And he said, Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mounts which I will tell you of. Gen 22,2Fortunately the location of the mount on which Isaac was sacrificed is preserved by a riddle of how Abraham named the Mount. And Abraham called the name of that place JHWH Jireh, as it is said to this day, In the mount the LORD is seen. Gen 22,14The Mount on which Isaac was sacrificed was called the mount in which the LORD is seen. At the same time, JHWH Jireh means 'The LORD sees'.Golgotha Looks like the top of a skull. Today it is not a mount in which the LORD is seen, but rather a cranium is seen, the upper part of the skull where the brain is located. But in the days of Abraham, the promised land was very beautiful and this head was groomed with bushes, testified to by the ram whose horns were caught in the thickets. This was that mount in which the LORD is seen. But then what does it mean, from this Mount the LORD sees? What does he see? He sees the North side of the Altar where all the sacrifices of Israel were made. And he sees the entrance of the temple, which even in Leviticus were mentioned as before the LORD.And he shall kill it on the north side of the altar before the LORD : Lev 1,11aAnd he shall bring the bullock to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD ; Lev 4,4The LORD loved Abraham so much, that he spoke directly to him of where he would one day sacrifice his own Son Jesus as a burnt offering. After traveling three days from the Land of the Philistines the LORD showed him the mount. And on this mount he swore to him and made two oaths; one Blessing for his People Israel to possess the Land, and one Blessing for all the families of the Earth.Mount Moriah and Mount JHWH Jireh are both the same height. In the days of Solomon the wall was built which then separated the two. Their base is less than 200 meters apart and their tops about 300 meters apart.

What is the relationship between the mountain where God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son and the mountain where Jesus was crucified?

Mount Moriah where the temple stood and where Calvary was located, and where Abraham was to sacrifice Isaac is the same limestone mountain.

Is Golgotha a simile?

No, Golgotha is not a simile. Its name means in the ancient hebrew language 'place of a skull'. The hebrew word 'skull' (transliteration gulgaleto) is very similiar to the english name 'Golgotha'. There is only one mount which appears like a skull near the ancient wall of Jerusalem, and that mount is just outside the Lion's Gate. (see www.golgotha.eu) Origin, at about 200 AD, describes the place in this way: A spot there is called Golgotha,-of old the fathers' earlier tongue thus called its name, "The skull-pan of a head:" Origin Against Marcion Book II 259 In appearance it is like a head looking at the altar and the temple entrance, for the view of the ancient temple and the altar were easily visible from this mount. This mount personifies the LORD looking at where the Israelites make their sacrifices. Abraham called it JHWH Jireh (Gen 22,14 The LORD sees), for the LORD is personified in this mount. Directly in the line of view of this mount the altar was made, and on the north side the sacrifices were made, before the LORD. (Lev 1,11) In the same verse it states 'In the mount the LORD is seen'. This is referring to its appearance as a head, personifying the LORD. Later, because of the sin of Israel, it looked more like a skull than a head. The real name of the mount is 'JHWH Jireh', given by Abraham. But the name it was known by in the days of Jesus was Golgotha.

What does genesis 22 have to do with Jesus?

In Genesis 22, Abraham was commanded by God to sacrifice his son on a mountain called Mt. Moriah. But God interceded and stopped Abraham from sacrificing Isaac. God had provided a ram for the sacrifice. Many years later Jesus Christ the Son of God was led to Calvary, or Golgotha to be sacrificed for you and for me. He took the sins of the world and paid the price for them, that if we accept Him as our personal Savior we should inherit eternal life. Praise God! Mt. Moriah, the Temple Mount and Calvary are on the same limestone ridge, the same mountain. Genesis 22 is a picture of the sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ which occurred many years later. If you look carefully in the Old testament you will see other "pictures' of the Messiah, who we know now as Jesus Christ.
