Yes, children need to believe that there is someone mighty and powerful watching them, this is important because kids need to have someone they can seek help in when all hope is lost. i mainly mean god and Jesus, but everyone has their own beliefs

Answer:

Imposing religious belief on children is a common occurrence - many regard it as wrong. At the simplest level as the children mature they may nor wish to be associated with the religion but will be unable to escape ties to it (there is no termination process for association with a religion)

The process is harmful as it uses the parents ability to make choices for the child without regard for the wishes of the child. At the same time it is a source of confusion. Some invisible friends - Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy - are later revealed to be imaginary, others (deities) are claimed to be real.

All in all no harm comes from not having a religious inculcation. Children will learn altruism, honesty and other positive values by observing the parents behavior. Being good just "because God is watching" is perhaps the least satisfying reason for being good. Similarly feeling that the whole Universe will change its rules to make your life better is a pointless effort.

Teaching children about a variety of religions and belief systems can help them develop a well-rounded understanding of the world. It's important for parents and educators to approach the topic in a way that promotes critical thinking and respect for different perspectives. Ultimately, the decision to teach religion should be based on the values and beliefs of the child's family.

What religions are taught in schools?

In public schools in the United States, religion is generally not taught as a part of the curriculum to avoid promoting or favoring any specific religion. However, in countries with different education systems, a variety of religions may be taught, with the focus often depending on the dominant religion or cultural context of the region. Some private schools or religious schools may offer education on specific faith traditions.

Why should you don't need to have religious instructions in schools?

Opinions on this vary. But those who don't want to have religious instruction in school are probably afraid that a certain religion will be more or less imposed on children. After all, if a religion is to be taught, who should decide which religion will be taught? Would you agree with your children being taught (for example) Buddhism if you are a Christian; or Christianity if you are a Buddhist, because somebody else decided that that is the "best" religion? Those who do want religion may also have valid arguments - for example, they might consider that religion to be the source of morality/ethics. However, the problem persists, which religion should be taught. Of course it might be possible to teach several religions, depending on the children's preferences (or those of their parents). But that will increase the cost for the school.
