Reuben, Gad, Manasseh
Sihon and Og are both figures in the Old Testament, the Christian name given to the Hebrew Bible. They were both Amorite kings.
In Deuteronomy chapter 2, Moses and the Israelites wished to pass through the land of Heshbon, but King Sihon refused them permission and refused to sell them meat. God told Moses to kill Sihon and possess his land, so that they could have passage. Sihon must have been a really powerful king.
It means striking down.
It isn't known who killed Sihon, but it was in battle.
In Psalm 136:20 and PS 135:11 Num:32:33: And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about. Deut:3:11: For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man. Deut:4:47: And they possessed his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, which were on this side Jordan toward the sunrising; Josh:9:10: And all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, which was at Ashtaroth. Josh:12:4: And the coast of Og king of Bashan, which was of the remnant of the giants, that dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, Josh:13:30: And their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities: 1Kgs:4:19: Geber the son of Uri was in the country of Gilead, in the country of Sihon king of the Amorites, and of Og king of Bashan; and he was the only officer which was in the land. Neh:9:22: Moreover thou gavest them kingdoms and nations, and didst divide them into corners: so they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan. Ps:135:11: Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan:
Sichon was an Emorite king (Deuteronomy ch.3). The Talmud (Rosh Hashanah 3a) traces the etymology of his name to the word sahyach- a wild young colt.
The dual promises God made to Abraham, which remained together through Isaac and Jacob (whose name was changed to Israel), became separated in Jacob's sons. The promise of the Christ, the Chief Ruler, and salvation went to Judah (the Jews). The "birthright" inheritance, or God's promise to Abraham of material prosperity and national greatness, went to the tribe of Joseph, which was split between his two sons, Ephraimand Manasseh - Genesis 48.Therefore, when it came to dividing the land among the twelve tribes after the Israelites entered the Promised Land... Joseph's inheritance was divided between his two tribes."...For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the Chief Ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's..." (I Chron.5:2).Answer:The Question is misleading, because the tribe of Manasseh was split. When the tribes of Israel were coming to end of there wilderness journey, Reuben and Gad had observed "the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle," they negotiated with Moses to receive land, with the half tribe of Manasseh included, on the East side of the Jordan River in Gilead. Numbers32:1-33; Joshua 22:9. So, Moses granted, that if they fulfill their obligation to help conquer the land of Canaan with the other tribes, that he would grant "to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about." v.33.Joshua, as he led the Israelites into the promised land confirmed the legacy Moses gave to them in Joshua 12:6. Later we find the other half of the tribe of Manasseh received their portion of land West of the Jordan River with the tribes of Ephraim and Dan. Joshua 21::5. The two halves of the tribe of Manasseh were separated by the Jordan.
Rahab explains exactly what she knows about the God of Israel in the following verses. Joshua 2:9-11: (NIV): 9 and [Rahab] said to [the spies], "I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. 10 We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. 11 When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone's courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.
The main theme of Deuteronomy is obedience as tought by Moses. He reminded the Israelites to learn from the example of their parents. The theme of Deuternomy is law. The meaning of this word is "second law". It repeats the laws covered in the second thru forth books of The Bible.
Deuteronomy:9:4-5: Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.5: Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.Lev:18:25: And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomitethout her inhabitants.Gen:15:16: But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.Num:31:2: Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.Josh:2:10: For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.Num:24:10: And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.Gen:12:3: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Gilead had a son but not from one of his wife's, from a maid. So he (Japheth) was cast out of the family. Many years later the Ammonites were going to attack Israel because they wanted their homeland back. So he sent a message to their king. He told them he story of how the kings of Edom, Moab, Sihon. Then God gave Sihon into Isreals hands and they defeated them. For 300 years Israel occupied Heshbon. The kind of Ammon paid no attention to what the servant had said. He starred to come. Japheth said God let me beat the Ammonites and the next thing that walks through my tent i will sacrifice. God lets the Isrealites win and his daughter (only daughter) was sacrificed. But she went with her friends for two months and cried in the hills.
Ultimately, God [Jesus Christ, the Creator God of the Old Testament and the God of Abraham - John 1:3] promised Abraham the Kingdom of God, which is the good news [gospel] of its future establishment over all the earth:"For the promise, THAT HE SHOULD BE THE HEIR OF THE WORLD, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith." (Rom.4:13)"...I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the Kingdom of Heaven." (Matt.8:11)"There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when YE SHALL SEE ABRAHAM, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD, and you yourselves thrust out." (Luke 13:28)
