Monks typically follow a routine that includes prayer, meditation, communal worship, work or service within the monastery, study of religious texts, and reflection on their spirituality. Many also engage in physical exercise, gardening, or other activities to promote well-being and mindfulness. This daily schedule is designed to help monks cultivate a deeper connection to their faith and embrace a life of simplicity and spiritual discipline.

Monks prayed eight times a day, on a certain schedule. They got up early in the morning to pray, then went back to bed and woke up around 5:00 a.m. and started their daily chores. This may include working in the garden or visiting the sick in their village. Also, monks were beautiful calligraphers and demonstrated this through the histories which they recorded. During mealtimes, they weren't allowed to talk so many monasteries invented their own sign language to compensate.

The Carthusians are known for their extreme solitude and silence, with each monk living in their own individual cell, coming together only for certain prayers and meals. The templar knights, the hospitalers, the teutons, generally the members of the military orders in the middle ages were refered to as warrior monks. This wasn't completely accurate, as they were not monks, but as they did make many of the same vows and followed daily routines based on the rule of st. Benedict, this is not too far off.
