'Near of kin' meant any immediate family member:-
Lev 21:2 KJV But for his kin, that is near unto him, that is, for hismother, and for his father, and for his son, and for hisdaughter, and for hisbrother,
'Kin' meant any relation at all :- Lev 25:48-49 KJV After that he is sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may redeem him: [v. 49] Either hisuncle, or his uncle's son [ie cousin], may redeem him, or any that is nigh[near] of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; ...
Because the archaic word 'kin' can be confusing, a modern translation which doesn't use the word 'kin' or 'near of kin' clarifies the meaning:-Lev 25:48-49 NET after he has sold himself he retains a right of redemption. One of his brothers may redeem him, [v. 49] or his uncle or his cousin may redeem him, or anyone of the rest of his blood relatives - his family - may redeem him,...
In summary, a kinsman is any blood relative:they are not male only.

"Jacob fathered 12 sons. They are the ancestors of the tribes of Israel, and the ones for whom the tribes are named. Each occupied a separate territory"
Kinsman redeemer was a culture practiced in the Nation of Israel's and other communities. In the event that a man got married and all his sons who would carry the family name died then man in his clan who was next in line would marry into that family. That man would assume the name of the dead man so that the children that he bore would be named after the man who had died. In the book of Ruth,Boaz married into the family of Naomi and became the kinsman redeemer. In the book of Gen 38 when the elder son of Judah died, then the second born married Tamar so that he could bear children to his elder brother. When he died before he bore any sons then Judah asked Tamar to return to her home until the other younger son was grown and she could marry him. As the Messiah, he was our prophesied Kinsman Redeemer. It is written: The wages of sin is death. Yeshua our Kinsman redeemer died in our place in order to redeem us from the penalty of sin which is death.
Boaz was Naomi's relative through her deceased husband's family. He was a kinsman-redeemer who had the right to marry Ruth, Naomi's daughter-in-law, and redeem the family property.
In ancient times, the wise men would sit at the gate. Townspeople often brought their questions or issues to the men at the gate in search of a justice. In the book of Ruth, chapter 4, you can see this illustrated when Boaz seeks the hand of Ruth but knows that there is another (the near kinsman) with a greater claim. Boaz calls the kinsman in front of the wise men at the gate and convinces him, before these witnesses, to relinquish his claim. While it may not seem like justice was done by our way of thinking, justice was certainly done in their minds because the actions were consistant with Jewish laws and customs.
The Old Testament word "goel" is often translated as "kinsman-redeemer" and refers to a close male relative whose duty it was to "redeem" a family member sold into slavery or impoverished in some way. The word is extensively used in the Old Testament book of Ruth.
