Who is Peter Matthews?
Peter Matthews was born in 1789 in the Bay of Quinte region. He came from a loyalist family but joined William Lyon Mackenzie's rebellion because he felt that the goverment was ignoring his problems. On December 5th 1837 he led a group to Montgomery's Tavern to join Mackenzie. Peter Matthews was later arrested and then hung for treason for being seen as one of the rebel leaders.
