He arrived in 595AD - Augustine (later Saint Augustine) and his party of monks and priests set out from Rome in 595 to convert Saxons to Christianity, eventually arriving in Kent, England in 597. Augustine met England's King Ethelbert on the Isle of Thanet. A double throne was set up for the king and his queen Bertha, and Augustine and his monks advanced towards the throne singing Latin hymns. Augustine was then allowed to tell to the king and his court the story of Christ. Finally he begged his listeners to give up their heathen gods and to become Christians.
Ethelbert thanked them for coming s far to try to do his people good. "Your words are fair," said he, "but of doubtful meaning. My people may do as they like, but the gods and my fathers are good enough for me." It is said that the delighted face of Queen Bertha, however, showed Augustine and his missionaries that she knew that all was well, and within twelve months Ethelbert himself with ten thousand of his subjects became Christians. There are two answers and they both arrive at the conclusion that you can not control the spirit of God. Either God exists and is all-powerful, in which case no one can control the spirit of God, or he simply does not exist and no one can control the spirit of a non-existent God.
René Descartes is often considered the father of modern rationalism. He was a prominent French philosopher, mathematician, and scientist whose work laid the foundation for much of modern philosophy, particularly in terms of the relationship between reason and knowledge. Descartes is famous for his method of doubting everything to arrive at certain knowledge ("Cogito, ergo sum"), which had a lasting influence on the development of modern thought.
If you view God as the Big Rule Maker in the Sky, then to break a promise would bring his wrath. But if your view of God is biblical, you'll see he wants to relate to you as Father, Lord, Friend, Elder Brother, Savior, All-Sufficient One, etc. He wants a deep, meaningful relationship with you. No rules, no have-to's, just loving, ever-maturing relationship. So talk to him about everything. The big things as well as the little things. He wants you to grow into increasing freedom. He doesn't want you to be bound by anything--including video games. Our relationship with God is a PROCESS, and we have to become comfortable with that process. I know I wrestle with that a lot; I want to "arrive" already!

A date of roughly 450 AD is widely accepted as the time of the first major influx of Angles and Saxons. Of course they didn't all arrive at the same time. For example, around 400 AD there were enough Saxon settlements in southern Britain that the area was often called "The Saxon Shore".

The Jutes share their religion, along with much else, with the Angles and the Saxons. All of the believe mainly in the war-god Woden, similar to the Norse god Odin. Also similar to the Norse religion is the pagan kingdom of the dead, Valhalla. To arrive here after death, the deceased would be cremated or buried without a coffin. These practices are the same in Scandinavian culture at the time because the Jutes migrated from there southward to Britain. The Saxons, however, were Germanic in origin. Before they migrated, whole ships were buried with the dead
