The holy spirit is not a person. It is god and Jesus combines. The holy spirit came upon the apostles as tongues of fire.
Without Pentecost the holy spirit would not have come on the disciples head and they will not be talking in different tongues or language.
A:The story of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2 closely parallels the Jewish Pentecost account of the giving of the Law on Mount Sinai, fifty days after Passover. Numbers 11:25 tells us that on that occasion, the spirit of God came down on the seventy elders and they began to prophesy in ecstasy. Wind has always been associated with the Holy Spirit, if only because the same Hebrew word can mean either wind or spirit. The translation here is 'spirit' because the spirit of God came down, but elsewhere the text could also be interpreted as 'wind'. The Christian Pentecost story so closely parallels the Jewish Pentecost that it was arguably inspired by the earlier account. Acts of the Apostles was written in Greek, so the author could speak of the Holy Spirit and of a rushing mighty wind without ambiguity. When writing the story of Pentecost, he wanted to demonstrate awesome power and leave no doubt that something special really occurred, so used the physical symbols of a rushing mighty wind and fire. Of course, if the Holy Spirit really came upon the apostles, he had no need of these symbols - after all, the modern Church teaches that the Holy Spirit can come down on Christians without wind or fire.
A:The Holy Spirit is reported in Acts 2:1-4 as coming to the apostles some forty days after the Resurrection of Jesus, on the Day of Pentecost, as tongues of flame. A little-known account in John's Gospel (John 20:22) also has the disciples receiving the Holy Spirit when Jesus breathed on them, on the same day as the Resurrection. Had the author of Acts not reported the disciples receiving the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, no doubt the parallel account in John's Gospel would have received greater prominence, with the Church proceeding much as it did.
On the day of the Pentecost in the upper room.Acts 2New King James Version (NKJV) Acts 2Coming of the Holy Spirit1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord[a] in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. The 1st Pentecost fell on a Sunday and was 50 days (meaning of word) from the day of Jesus' Resurrection (Saturday - 7x7=49 plus 1 day).
He will send holy spirit
'Come Holy Ghost.'
The Holy Spirit came with power upon the disciples 10 days after the ascension on the Day of Pentecost.
Pentecost.
The First Day.
the day of pentecost
Pentecost, which literally means 50 or it is 50 days after the Passover and First Fruits. Jesus returned to visit his Disciples after his resurection and promised to wait for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit did not come then. Jesus disappeared in a cloud. The Holy Spirit came upon the disciples 50 days later when they were praying together in Jerusalem.
Without Pentecost the holy spirit would not have come on the disciples head and they will not be talking in different tongues or language.
Specifically at the event called Pentecost.
Jesus did. This is explained in: 26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
The holy spirit descended on the 12 disciples on the Jewish festival of the passover in the upper room.Acts 2:1-4 - When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (NKJV)
The Church began on Pentecost Sunday when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles.
Jesus remained on the Earth for 40 days after His resurrection. He then ascended into Heaven. Ten days later, on Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles and after repentence, upon those who were gathered there.
