It clearly does.
Micah 5:2 (King James Version)2But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.Jesus clearly is the only one who has been 'from everlasting'. Some prophecies also have a multiple level of meaning. Thus, although some details may be fulfilled in a time relatively close to the time, other remain to be fulfilled later such as when Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
The Jewish scribes of Jesus' own day clearly saw this as a prophecy which spoke of the Messiah being born in Bethlehem, hence their to Herod in Matthew2:6.
Micah 5 verse 2 does not prophesied the advent of Jesus for the follwing reason;
1."Bethlehem Ephratah" in Micah 5:2 refers not to a town, but to a clan: the clan of Bethlehem, who was the son of Caleb's second wife, Ephrathah. see 1 Chronicles 2:18, 2:50, 4:4.
2. Micah 5:2 does not refer to the Messiah, but rather to a miltary leader, as can be seen from verse 5:6. This leader is supposed to defeat the Assyrians, which, Jsus never did.
5:6 And they shall wste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.
Jesus was born in "Bethlehem Ephrathah", in the Judean highlands (as prophesied at Micah 5:2), nowadays called Beit Lahm(Bet Lehem) about 5 ½ miles from the Temple Mount.There were two Bethlehems in existence in Jesus day: -A town in the territory of Zebulun (Joshua 19:10+15) and -The town formerly called Ephrath (Ephrathah) (Genesis 35:19 + 48:7)(Luke 1:26-38; 2:4-7). It was this latter one where Jesus was born (John 7:40-42)(Matthew 2:3-6).
As Noah was born 1998BC [Ussher] and Jesus was born 4BC [Ussher] this would make it 1994 years.
Bethlehem. Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. Matthew 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, IS1:14 said he was laid in a bin that fed the animals because there was no other place to put him.He was born in Bethlehem,but fled shortly after the birth.They were told there would be trouble if they stayed.
A:For Jews, no, the New Testament is not the fulfilment of the Old Testament. They point out that Jesus is never mentioned anywhere in the Tanach (Old Testament), either by name or even indirectly in any way by which he could be identified. For Christians, yes, the New Testament is the fulfilment of the Old Testament. They point to many Old Testament passages that they believe prophesy or prefigure events in the New Testament.Objectively, some of the references used by Christians are not really from the Old Testament in the original Hebrew but from the Septuagint, a flawed, early Greek translation of the Hebrew scriptures, and as such do no more than demonstrate that parts of the New Testament were written by men to fulfil the wrong scriptures.In other cases, the gospel authors seem to have misunderstood the Hebrew texts. Matthew says that Jesus was born in Bethlehem to fulfil a prophecy in the Old Testament. He quotes Micah 5:2 as: "And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel," whereas the actual text of Micah 5:2 is "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah[Bethlehem], though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from days of yore." Micah expected that another king of Israel would be born in little Bethlehem. He did not mention Jesus, and Jesus was never the king of Israel nor were all the Jews to become his followers, as another sense would imply. The link between Micah 5:2 and Matthew is so tenuous that some Christian Bibles have improved Micah 5:2 to make it a more apparent prophecy of a divine king, translating the verse into English with 'everlasting' rather than 'days of yore', but I have provided the original.
Jesus was born about the year AD1, give or take a few years. St. Brigid of Ireland was born in the year 453 at Faughart, County Louth, Ireland.
Micah, prophecying in the eighth century BC, foretold the destruction of Jerusalem (which Jesus also spoke about), and how Gentiles would come to Jerusalem to learn about God (which Jesus also spoke about). However, the most prominent connection between Micah and Jesus is the overtly messianic prophecy in Micah 5:2 which foretells where the Messiah (Jesus) will be born: Bethlehem.
It was foretold by God in the book of Micah, about 730 years before Christ's birth, that the child Jesus would be born in Bethlehem. (Micah 5.2)
