According to some people in the Christian religion, the soul goes out from our time and space dimension. Time is just something we living humans do perceive. So no one will have to "wait" for the final judgment as the souls of dead humans don't perceive time as we do.

One could see it like we are living on a line, and without the time dimension the souls (and God too) are everywhere through all times!

In many religious beliefs, a soul is believed to go to a temporary place after death, such as purgatory in Catholicism or the underworld in Greek mythology. The final judgement determines the soul's eternal destination based on its actions during life.
