René Descartes is often considered the father of modern rationalism. He was a prominent French philosopher, mathematician, and scientist whose work laid the foundation for much of modern philosophy, particularly in terms of the relationship between reason and knowledge. Descartes is famous for his method of doubting everything to arrive at certain knowledge ("Cogito, ergo sum"), which had a lasting influence on the development of modern thought.
Father Serra was a Spanish Franciscan friar who founded nine Spanish missions in California, with the goal of spreading Christianity among the indigenous population. He believed in the moral and spiritual benefits of converting Native Americans to Christianity, and saw the missions as a way to "civilize" and educate them according to European standards. However, his actions have been controversial and criticized for their impact on indigenous communities.
Swedenborg was certainly influential on the modern spiritualist movement, but he was one of many people expounding their teachings/philosophies on the super-natural. He might be considered one of the fathers, but is certainly not THE father. It should be noted that the writings of Swedenborg did indeed usher in a new age, but the new age that we have today is very different than the new age which was promoted and initiated by the writings of Swedenborg. There are many aspects of which modern spiritualists have taken from Swedenborg, especially from his work on Heaven and Hell, but they have left behind may others, such as the Divinity of Jesus Christ and the eternity of the hell, and introduced others which are contrary to what Swedenborg wrote, such as reincarnation. As to being a father of any movement or any idea, Swedenborg would be the first to say that there is one Father, the Father of eternity, the Prince of peace.

Generally, it is said that William Carey (1761-1834), a Baptist missionary to India, is the "Father of Modern Protestant Missions." There are reasons why many people give him this title, it is still a matter of preference. Hudson Taylor was certainly a visionary and innovator. If one wanted to give him a title, one might choose "Father of the Inland Missions Movement" or the "Father of Faith-based Missions."
