The biblical account of the Flood says that God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and he repented that he made man. He decided to destroy man, but Noah found favour with God.

There are so many, quite similar accounts of a great flood, many of them much older than the biblical story, that some have felt there may really have been an actual flood event in the world's pre-history. Ian Wilson (Before the Flood) has established that the Mediterranean Sea breakthrough at the Bosporus occurred in 5600 BCE, and that this resulted in a catastrophic inundation of the former lush pastures that now form the Black Sea. The water level is calculated to have risen by six inches per day over an enormous area, creating the illusion that the entire world was being flooded. Tracing the spread of flood myths and Greek legends from the Black Sea, he concludes that the genesis of the biblical Flood was indeed the Black Sea inundation. If God sent the Flood, then he sent it because the rising sea levels after the last Ice Age breached the land barrier at what is now the Bosporus.

God destroyed the earth with a flood as the people living at that time were incredibly sinful. They were engaging in the services of prostitutes. They were also killing each other as if they had no consciences. God was so disgusted with them that he was thinking about killing off all of mankind. We are alive only because Noah pleaded with God and God agreed to save Noah's family and 2 of every unclean animal and 14 of every clean animals.

Just to add to this good response, the record of this event can be found in the Old Testament, Genesis Chapters 6-9. The family structure was falling apart; just as it is today (Gen 6:1-2). There is no record that Noah pleaded with God; in fact, The Bible states that "Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD" (Gen 6:8). The Grace of God is always undeserving. In Hebrews 11:7 (NT) the Bible records, "By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith." God called Noah to a work. Noah responded and it made all the difference in the saving of the life of his family. Noah condemned the world by his preaching and actions. All the while he was building this massive ship, he was preaching coming judgment (2Peter 2:5). The same falling apart of the family structure today is a sign of Christ's soon coming. The Words of Jesus Christ, "And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all." (Lk:17:26-27) Never forget that God gave Noah as a witness of the coming judgment and God also gave the people time to respond - they would not! Today God calls us...(Romans 10:9)
