At the age of 40 years 6 months and 10 days, Muhummad was meditating in Cave Hira when suddenly Angel Jibraeel (Gabriel) came and tolh him to read. Muhummad was illeterate so he said he couldn't read. Jibraeel shook him and again told him to read. After this happened three times, Muhummad found he could read the first verses of the Quran that were revealed (Surah Alaq, The Clot( Surah 96)).

There is no way to know for sure which surah he liked most but he praised Surah Yasin many times, saying that whosoever recites it will be rewarded ten times over in heaven.
His story appears here n there, eg Surah 7: 73-79. Sura shams also has a portion dedicated to it.

Surah Al- Mulk is the 67th surah in the Qur'an and has a total of 30 ayahs. It is said that this Surah will fight for you in the afterlife until the person enters heaven. Prophet Muhammad was reported to be saying, "There is a Surah which will plead for its reciter till it causes him to enter paradise." The name of this surah refers to Malik al Mulk, "The Owner of All Sovereignty", and literally "King of the realm," one of the 99 Names of Allah. It has been told in Hadith that Prophet Muhammad has said that if every night Surah Al-Mulk is recited, then the reciter shall be protected from the tortures of the grave.
All of the verses of Surah Baqarah have special importances. E.g., importance of the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah; 1. It was revealed to prophet Muhammad pbuh at the night of Mi'raj. 2. Prophet Muhammad pbuh says that; "If one reads the last two verses of surah al-Baqarah before s/he sleeps, this is enough for her/him." 3. ... ...... etc. etc.
