Any good doctor will know that there are alternatives to blood transfusions and will use these, eg, normal saline solution, ringers. Refusing blood does not mean refusing treatment, it just means refusing one method of medicine. If a patient is allergic to penacillin they are not forced to have it, they are given an alternative. In the end, refusing blood is not the be all and end all as it is made out to be. Our bodies are made to replace lost blood, the most important thing in blood loss is replacing the lost volume.

In this situation, it is important to respect the patient's autonomy and religious beliefs. You may need to involve a hospital ethics committee or consult with medical and legal experts to determine the next steps and potentially explore alternatives to blood transfusion, if available. It is crucial to maintain open communication with the patient and their family to ensure they are fully informed about the risks and benefits of the treatment options available.
