It depends on what you think is fun. You cannot take a snake out and "play" with it, they are not like that. You can hold them, but not more than once or twice a day or they will get stressed. Some species cannot be handled for more than a few minutes every few weeks. If you want a fun pet get a dog or a cat.
Children's Python and Eastern small Blotched Pythons are both great pets and are small.
Pythons are safe to keep as a pet. You just need to be more cautious then with other snakes when your python gets to be five feet or longer. I have a ball Python and they are safe because they do not get to big but there are bigger kinds.
