yes this is normal. a male tortoise with sex on his mind will not be interested in food. i advise that you separate the male from the female. if you keep them together for too long then the female will become very stressed with his relentless advances and he will drop weight from not eating and will be unsuitable for hibernation. i put my male and female together for only two hours per day for these reasons then i separate them. i hope ive helped, shan x .
It is not advised to keep them housed together. It is okay to put them together for a day or two for breeding, but if kept together they may end up fighting. The female will protect her babies after they are born and a male can also harm the babies.
