This has been a subject of much exaggeration, with some reports stating that the animals could grow to a 7 m (23ft), but no such dragon has yet been verified.

The average male dragon doesn't get much larger than 2.15-2.8 m (7-9 ft) and weighs in at more around 54 kg (119 lbs). Females tend to be smaller than males with most hanging around the 2 m (6ft) area.

The largest recorded Komodo dragon was a large 3.13 m (10 ft 2.5 inch) 165.9 kg (365 lbs) male given to a US Zoologist by the Sultan of Bima in 1928. After its death in 1933 it was stuffed and is now held at Tilden Regional Park in Berkely, California.
