That is a very simple question...turtles hide in their shells in the winter or dig in the ground. You see when turtles hide in their shells they are like a big ball of skin and they stay warm, just like when people curl up in bed with their blanket.

Why do sea turtles bury themselves?

Turtles bury themselves to keep warm. Turtles cannot generate heat on their own so they depend on the land to keep them warm. So they will go under rock, leafs, and sometimes the ground (if they are living outside). If they are inside under the proper heating they shouldn't be buring themselves. If they are i would take them to a vet and have them checked for the flu. Hope this helped ;)
