In real life she never really did exist. But in Greek myths she was killed by Perseus. In The Odyssey, Odysseus mentions the fear of seeing the head of the Gorgon while he is visiting Hades, but he leaves before she is sent to him by Persephone.

In the movie, Percy Jackson & Olympians The Lightening Thief, Percy actually kills Medusa. But the only way to kill her is to cut off her head, without looking at her eyes. He uses his phone to see her reflection in. But yet, the movie is really nothing like the myths. In the movie Medusa has no sisters, however, in the myth Medusa has two sisters. They are called "Gorgons."
