What do snapping turtles do in the winter?

Get a book from your local library on care of snapping turtles. Call your wild fish and game department in you state and see if your even supposed to be messing with them in the first place then you can figure out what to feed them. Not the best idea to get them used to you if they are from the wild because it takes away there natural instincts to forrage for themselves and what happens when you no longer can care for them do they starve now. Do the right thing and check it out .

Most turtles brumate, which is the reptilian word for hibernating. During this time, they do not eat or digest food. In climates that are warm year round, they do not need to brumate (their cold blooded metabolism does not get cold enough to slow down their metabolism). These turtles stay on their normal diet during a warm winter.

in the winter turtles swim to the bottom of a lake,pond or creek and dig them self in. but do they need to eat and breath well they are down there?
