The corn snake's belly will get burned and that is not good
Heat lamps in captivity can harm corn snakes if they are placed where the snake can get very close to it. To prevent this a wire mesh cage should be placed around the lamp
They cannot go without a heat source. The temperatures must be consistent or they will die.
Heat mat & heat pad - are just different names for the same piece of equipment.
To provide the optimal heat rock setup for your snake's enclosure, place the heat rock on one side of the tank to create a temperature gradient. Use a thermostat to regulate the heat rock's temperature to around 85-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure the heat rock is large enough for your snake to comfortably rest on and monitor the temperature regularly to ensure it stays within the safe range for your snake's species.
It is alright to use a heat lamp for a corn snake in combination with a heating pad as long as the snake has a place to go where he can escape both. Corn snakes don't live an extremely high temperatures and do well between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. As long as he has a place to go that is between or lower than these temperatures he should be fine, preferably a shaded area such as under a crevice or "snake house".
Using a heating lamp for a corn snake is not a bad thing, however not necessary. As a North American species it is adapted to live at low temperatures during winter and high temperatures during summer. During lower temperatures snakes become less active and can hibernate. The addition of both a heat lamp and heat pad won't harm the snake as long as the snake has a place to go to escape both if it so chooses.
Depends entirely on the species of snake but... Vivarium £120 Substrate £5-£10 (depending on the size of the vivarium) Heat Mat £10-£20 (depending on size) Infra-red ceramic bulb £20 Thermostats £20 each Lock £5 (to stop the corn snake getting out AND people getting in un-supervised !) Electricity - £2-£3 a week depending on the power needs of the heat sources. Corn Snake - around £80-£100 depending on size and morph. Total - £300. Proper research - to enable you to look after a snake correctly - PRICELESS !
A corn snake's mouth is equipped with sharp teeth that curve backwards to help grip and swallow prey. They have a specialized jaw structure that allows them to consume large prey items. The mouth also contains heat-sensing pits that help the snake locate warm-blooded prey in the dark.
why does the heat a snake feels from the heat lamp above him
no
corn snakes are called that because back then farmers found them climbing on the cornstalks and basking heat. Additionally, the pattern on their bellies resembles that of corn. Like all snakes corn snakes are carnivores and can only eat other animals. Corn snakes prey mostly on rodents.
The slow worm is now a protected species ! You shouldn't be keeping one in captivity.
