What kind of lighting should you use for a bearded dragon in a 20 gallon tank?

You'll want a light for heat. This can be as simple as a regular household bulb, indoor flood, or reptile specific bulb.

You'll also want a UVB source in the form of a florescent bulb or a Mercury Vapor. No coils.

you will need two types of light. The first type is a heat light which consists of a reflector dome and a basking light. The light will probably need to be 50 to 75 watts. The tank needs to be 95 to 105 degrees.

The next type of light that you need is called UV B. UV B light is highly important because with out it your bearded dragon can not absorb vitamin D3 that it gets from calcium. The result is a calcium deficiency and metabolic bone disease which leads to death. UV B lights come in two different forms. You can either use a flourescent strip light and buy a UV B flourescent light to go into it. Bearded dragons being desert lizards need a very high concentration of 8.0 to 10.0 UV B. The other type is sort of like your heat light. You can use a reflector dome and buy a screw in UV B light for it. This method is less expensive unless you already own a flourescent strip light from perhaps an old fish tank.

a baby bearded dragon needs the heating lamp but not powerful, just until 85-90 F
