a caiman
A black caiman is a large crocodilian species found in South America, known for its dark coloration. It is the largest predator in its ecosystem, feeding on fish, birds, and small mammals. The black caiman is considered a top carnivore and plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of its wetland habitat.
There are several different kinds of caimans, and they all belong to the family Caimaninae. Some examples are caiman yacare, caiman latirostris, and caiman crocodilus.
A caiman looks very similar to the American Alligator - short, U-shaped snout, wide eyes, and usually have red eyes and a bony ridge between the eyes distinguishing them from Alligators. Most are small, but some like the Black Caiman can reach lengths in excess of 17ft!
