Steve Irwin was born in Essendon, Melbourne. He moved to Queensland when still a child, and grew up on the Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park (now "Australia Zoo") in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, near the small town of Beerwah.

Steve was most well-known as The Crocodile Hunter, and passed away in 2006.
