Let the skin shed on its own. The new skin has to form completely so the shedding may progress in stages. After shedding, the gecko will normally eat its skin to recover the remaining proteins.
leopard geckos are in the reptile the family and in the gecko family. Most geckos can adhere to things and climb with their little toes but leopard geckos can't, instead they have claws. If you hold a leopard gecko, you will feel them while something like day geckos they have very soft paws
If a leopard gecko is threatened, it will drop it's tail. the tail creates a diversion and wiggles on the ground while the leopard gecko runs for safety.
When a leopard gecko feels threatened it loses its tail. The tail still moves because it has nerve endings in it, and will distract the enemy while the leopard gecko gets away. Eventually the leopard gecko will grow a new tail but it will not be as pretty as its old tail. It will grow back in a "light bulb" shape instead of sleek and straight.
Leopard gecko sex determination is determined by the temperature at which the eggs are incubated. Warmer temperatures typically result in male geckos, while cooler temperatures result in female geckos.
The easiest way to sex a leopard gecko is to check its underside. If it has 2 bulges at the base of the tail and dark spots a little above the base that looks like a triangle without a base than the leopard gecko is a male. If there are no bulges (which are called hemipenial bulges) and you cant see the dark spots (which are called preanal pores), then the leopard gecko is a female. There are also people who say that males are longer and have bigger heads, while females are smaller with smaller heads, but there isnt enough proof to say that that is a true fact.
Leopard geckos may drop their tails as a defense mechanism when they feel threatened or stressed. This process, known as autotomy, allows them to escape from predators by leaving behind a wriggling tail that distracts the predator while the gecko makes its getaway. Additionally, if a leopard gecko's tail is injured or grabbed by a predator, it may intentionally detach its tail to protect itself and survive.
I got my Leopard gecko for $38.00.
At the base of the tail males have two small bulges and chevron shaped pores while females lack this.
The cat would eat the gecko, then freeze to death. If the cat swallowed the gecko hole, it would be warm for a while but later die.
Geckos are not poisonous at all, neither for humans nor for their prey. Only very few lizard species have a venom and of those, only the Gila monster and the Komodo dragon are dangerous to humans (although with an attacking Komodo, venom is the least of your worries).
If I were you I would not do it. Feed them live crickets, mealworms, waxworms. Not BEEF!!!!!!You can feed an adult Leo with a pinkie once in a while. (.) (.)
Leopard geckos drop their tails as a defense mechanism when they feel threatened or stressed. This behavior is called autotomy, and it allows the gecko to escape from predators while the detached tail continues to wiggle, distracting the predator. The tail will eventually grow back, but it may not look the same as the original.
