I called the Starbucks corporate office and they said that the decision on whether to hire an ex-offender is made on a case-by-case basis and is decided by an "adjudication committee". They also said that they have hired ex-offenders in the past and encourage convicted felons to apply and go through the background check process. So the short answer is: Yes, they hire convicted felons.

Basically, if it was something very minor from like 30 years ago they might hire you. Everyone else is out of luck.

They do a background check, which is a joke. I work with several people with multiple felonies. Murder being one ;).
