Pasta is the Italian word for noodles. It is sometimes said that noodles were originally brought back to Italy by Marco Polo from China, but there is historical evidence that pasta was made in the area we now know of as Italy long before Marco Polo was born. Pasta in varying forms, and with various names, is found practically worldwide.

There are millions of Italian dishes and each region of Italy has it's own favorites. Pasta, bread, fish, and vegetables form the basis for many Italian dishes, but you are better served by looking at an Italian cookbook to get a better idea.
If you ask me, I say the food in Italy is delicious. here are some foods you might already know of that people eat in Italy. Pizza, pasta, spaghetti, panini (a sandwich), tortellini en brodo (pasta stuffed with meat or cheese in broth), bread, soup, and the the excellent ham and melon (cantaloupe with an Italian ham wrapped around it). These are just a few examples and the cooking style varies from region to region. There are also many kinds of the things listed above. For example, pasta has many different shapes and colors. They even make a pasta with the colors of the Italian flag on it! Enjoy!
