Researching my own family genealogy succsessfully back to the late 1400's it would appear that beyond that date it was a derivative of the German name Drischer. It arrived in Virginia in 1620 with one Robart Thrasher (a direct descendent) aboard the ship Bona Nova out of London. It appears to have spread rapidly in the USA when slavery was abolished when many released slaves took the name of their previous owners/estates. Whilst it has had a very successful journey in the USA with Towns, Bridges and even a Hockey team named after it, sadly it is fading fast in the UK. Don Thrasher
