What lesson did Sal learn in Walk Two Moons?

Sal is compassionate and loves to exaggerate. Her experiences and memories are based on nature. She is a high spirited country girl, who is a lot like her mother. Sal is very adventurous and spends most of her time out doors, or in the car, while on her journey from Ohio to Idaho. Sal becomes stronger throughout the book, especially since what she finds out at the end the book may change her for the rest of her life.

One of the lessons that Sal learned is also the first mysterious message that she and Phoebe received.

Sal had to learn this lesson because she and Phoebe were both judging Mrs. Cadaver based on the fact that her last name, Cadaver, means "dead body," and also on when they saw her uprooting and replanting a Rhododendron bush (which is a branch of the fact that they thought that Mrs. Cadaver had ax-murdered her husband, and they though that she was burying him under the bush).
