Actually there are several easy to remember steps in order to avoid online scams. First of all one should always run the latest antivirus updates. Next one should avoid clicking any links in mails - especially if the sender is unknown. In the latter case it should be even avoided reading the mail at all. Finally one should not enter any credit card related or financial sensitive data online.
