It is a theory proposed S.J. Singer and Garth Nicolson in 1972 to explain the properties of a cell membrane. 1. Cell membranes are made of 2 layers of phospholipids. 2. A phospholipid is a large molecule, based on a triglyceride. It has a phosphate head which is water-loving and a fatty acid tail which repels water. 3. The phosphate head forms the outside of the layer and attracts water. 4.
