In the first case she can join a number of clubs or groups with activities from learning to do small decorations to play cards or be read books or many other activities. In the case of enjoying more to be alone, she can take up to collect something she could like or even to write her memories or recipies. The main thing is that a hobby must be something interesting and enjoyable. The elderly women I know have a great variety of hobbies. Some enjoy Scrapbooking. Others knitting or crocheting. Still others stay busy canning vegetables and fruits. Some make a hobby out of travel, or casinos. I know a 92-year-old lady who likes to bake sweets - even though she herself is a diabetic. My 84-year-old mom likes to read and care for her cat.

Define what age group you mean by "elderly". The same things younger men do for hobbies. Most more mature gentlemen continue with the hobbies they started in their youth. I know several 70 year olds that still teach karate several times a week.
