Do air conditioner's cause air pollution?

No ... their purpose is to transfer the heat from inside to the outside. No harmful chemicals are released to the air in this process unless the A/C system has a leak, in which it would no longer be cooling the interior of the space and people would notice that right away and get it fixed.

Yes! they do if they are faulty or the freon gas escapes when they are scrapped or not serviced correctly.

Not to mention the coal, natural gas or oil used to produce the electricity needed to operate them.

Indirectly, yes.

The majority of the power we use comes from fossil energy, so air conditioners are partly powered by the burning of fossil fuels, which contributes to air pollution. The energy that went into producing the air conditioners also came to some extent from the burning of fossil fuels, so again a contribution. Then the air conditioners had to be transported from where they were produced and eventually to the homes of the users. Most of that transport was most likely powered by fossil fuels as well.

Air conditioners do not pollute the air when working but it is at the time of manufacturing when refrigerant is filled. During dis process some refrigerant escapes to atmosphere and thus for every day around the world ac/fridge production causes huge damage to Ozone layer.
