I would say there are two ways of perceiving it.
1) It has made use aloof in a sense that people do not chat face to face in person any more. We have so many technological advances that we use instant messaging, video calls, and cell phones as a huge means of communication. I've seen a 20/20 interview with a married couple who are communicating through instant messaging, when they are only two rooms away (in the same house).
2) It is keeping us more connected because technology is so advanced that it could let you communicate to people thousands of miles away.
