For centuries women have been placed in a secondary position to men. The idea originated from The Bible that Eve gave Adam the Apple and therefore brought sin into the world. The fact that women have born children also added to this thinking making them weaker. Children were also considered to be born with sin. When the Catholic Church made the ruling that priests be celibate many women were left alone in poverty because they were no longer married to the man who was a priest. Women became chattel to men and have been bought, sold, raped, abused, and bartered for lands and wealth. Women haven't been allowed to go to school, own property, have their own money, and make decisions for themselves. Since inheritances were from the males this locked women out of gaining any power or property. There have been a few exceptions like Eleanor of Aquitaine who was the wife of two kings and the mother of 3 kings. Yet, she was placed in exile for many years by her husband. It was a common practice in the Middle Ages to put women in a nunnery to get rid of them and remove them from society. Single women had to stay with family and a male relative was made their guardian. This persistented all the way through to the 1900's and still women were given little education, or freedom to live as they wanted. Today, in the world there are places where women still don't have any civil rights, education, or are forced into sexual slavery. Even in the United States the civil rights of women has been a long process. It wasn't until Title 9 in the 1960's that women's sports in schools and colleges had equal access to funding. The first woman fighter pilot was in the 1980's, but she still couldn't fight in a combat role. As late as 1991 women were required to get a permission to buy car insurance and getting credit was also limited. Today there are some who like to have women go back 100 years in civil rights. The fact that women have been able to control their own reproductive health has given women a means to gain education, wealth, and power. Reproductive freedom is an economic issue for the most part because it has allowed women the freedom to go into government, business, and gain higher education replacing men in positions of power.
Benevolent sexism is a form of sexism that appears positive or protective but ultimately reinforces traditional gender roles and perpetuates inequality. It often manifests as attitudes that suggest women are fragile, need to be cared for, or should fulfill nurturing roles. While it may seem complimentary, benevolent sexism can undermine women's autonomy and contribute to their subordination in society. This form of sexism contrasts with hostile sexism, which is overtly negative and aggressive toward women.
Sexism can be likened to a heavy fog that obscures vision, making it difficult for individuals to see each other’s true potential and worth. Just as fog can limit movement and clarity, sexism restricts opportunities and stifles voices, creating an environment where biases thrive. This metaphor highlights how pervasive and insidious sexism can be, often going unnoticed while impacting the paths of many.

Cultural sexism refers to the pervasive attitudes, beliefs, and practices within a society that perpetuate discrimination and inequality based on gender. It manifests through norms, stereotypes, and institutional behaviors that reinforce traditional gender roles, often marginalizing women and promoting male dominance. This form of sexism can be subtle, embedded in cultural narratives, media representations, and everyday interactions, influencing how individuals perceive and treat one another based on their gender. Addressing cultural sexism requires challenging these ingrained societal norms and promoting gender equity.
One of the most persistent and difficult aspects of sexism is the ingrained societal norms and stereotypes that dictate gender roles. These biases can manifest in various areas, including the workplace, education, and personal relationships, often leading to unequal opportunities and treatment. Additionally, sexism is frequently perpetuated through cultural narratives and media representations, making it challenging to dismantle these deep-seated beliefs. This systemic nature of sexism requires ongoing efforts for awareness and change across multiple societal levels.

A dependent clause is known as a subordinate clause because it cannot stand alone as a complete sentence and relies on an independent clause to provide context and meaning. The term "subordinate" indicates that this type of clause is secondary to the main clause, often providing additional information or context. For example, in the sentence "Although it was raining, we went for a walk," "Although it was raining" is subordinate to the main clause "we went for a walk."
In PowerPoint, a subordinate refers to a slide or element that is hierarchically lower than another in a presentation's outline or structure. For instance, in a bulleted list, a subordinate item is an indented bullet point that falls under a main (or parent) bullet point. This relationship helps organize content, making it easier for the audience to follow the flow of information. Subordinate elements are often used to provide additional details or subpoints related to the main idea.
