How did feminism come about?

Feminism was a reaction to the industrial revolution. Early feminist include JS Milton and Karl Marx.

Milton viewed women as being unfairly oppressed by their husbands and men in general. - The Subjugation of Women (1869)

Marx believed that the industrial revolution provided the opportunity for women, through use of technologist to as productive as men. - Das Kapital (1867)

Feminism, as opposed to feminine (see description above) grew out of a desire to be treated as equal. This means opportunities to have work, be treated with respect etc.

The second wave of feminism was happened in the 1960's. Women were advocating for equal opportunity in regards to employment, wages and basic civil rights. They also wanted access to birth control and childcare services.
