There isn't really anything to "watch for" to tell if someone is gay, Just because someone is gay doesn't mean they automatically start prancing around with limp wrists discussing how "FABulous" everything is.

Well, the same way you can tell if your crush likes zombie movies... you ask. This is the best and only sure way to find out.

If you would find asking embarrassing, then you probably need to get to know them better. Invite them to a group activity so that it doesn't feel like a date so that you can spend time with them and grow more comfortable with each other. Great examples of this are group sports, a movie, or even playing Video Games. You may find out through getting to know the person better whether they could be more than simply a crush. If you don't like them, then you avoid the whole mess and if you do like them, you'll have a better idea of whether or not they'd be offended by you asking the question.

Another method is to test the waters by finding out his or her attitudes about homosexuality. For example, you might be embarrassed to ask if your crush is gay, but you probably wouldn't be embarrassed to ask whether or not they think same-sex marriage should be legal or share with them that you think there is nothing wrong with being gay and strongly gay equal rights. If they respond positively, then you know that they would at least not be offended by you asking if they are homosexual, but if they respond negatively, you'll know that they are either straight or homosexual and not ready to deal with it.

^Uh, nope. Some are like that, but you'll find plenty of counterexamples in both directions (masculine gay guys and feminine straight guys). Are most feminine guys gay? In my experience yes, but not nearly enough to make a judgement call for any given person based on that alone. The truth of it is that you can't tell unless you ask and they're willing to be honest.
