A good place to start looking to find out who built your house is the Office of the County Assessor where you live. They have records with varying degrees of accuracy (the farther back you go, the less accurate) that cover ownership and some things about development and building within the county. If you get no joy, ask there if they can suggest anywhere else you might go. They might send you to the Building Department. That's the place where county planning and construction permits and such can be researched. You're paying for this stuff, so use it. Sadly, there are severe limits to the availability of their records online. (They charge for some services like copies of platt maps and the like.)
