Why nuclear would not be a good alternative to hydroelectric power?

If hydro power is available, go for it. Most places don't have enough water or height to produce much hydro though. I hope nobody has built nuclear where hydro is available.

How much does Hydro Power cost?

What are the good uses about hydroelectric power?

Hydro electricity is good because water is all around us. This means that we do not need to change the entire landscape dramatically. Next we have the fact that it is cheaper due to the fact that at one time there are very little personnel on the floor resulting in lower costs for the customers. Now I look at the structure of the dams they use. The dams are strong and some built hundreds of years ago are still in use today. There are also low emissions, however, the emissions are only from the building process. Finally I turn to how much power hydro-electricity makes. With the amount of dams we have today we could power the world two times over! And for all those tax payers and people that want to keep their money, going to hydro electricity is a very good decision to make.

How Has hydro been used successfully in the past?

Hydro energy is using the power of water to run a machine. It was invented thousands of years ago when millers used the power of a stream to turn a paddle wheel to grind their corn into flour. The Romans and Greeks used hydro power around 200 BC.The use of hydro energy to produce electricity is much more modern. About 1870 a miner connected a dynamo to a water wheel to generate electricity.See the related question below.

How does hydro electric power produce electricity?

Hydro plants range in size from arbitrarily small to the largest power plant in the world. On the small side, there are hydro power generators that literally can fit onto a person's hand, with very small output. Some people use very small generators to produce power for their homes or for other off-grid use of power. There is no reason why a much smaller model could be produced, though it would probably not have a practical application. The Three Gorges Dam in China is the largest electric plant in the world, in terms of output. It currently has an output of 18,200, but will not achieve full power until 2011, when its output will be 22,500 MW. This is several times the output of a large nuclear facility.
