Gaydar is the portmanteau of the words gay and radar. It has become a colloquialism and is construed as the ability to tell if someone is gay. There have been numerous studies, some of which support the idea that there is some truth that sexual orientation can be "sensed."

Most people who use gaydar, rely on body movements, gestures, and voice patterns. With the introduction of such code-work as the Hankerchief Code, and Jelly Bracelet color codes, it has become easier for homosexually oriented people to communicate their choices of partners.
