Some say if you have an earring in the left ear it shows that you are gay. This is true.
----
I must say, I completely disagree with that quote. Both my brother and father have earrings in their left ears, and I assure you neither are gay! I have known dozens upon dozens of straight men who wear earrings on their left ear, right ear, or both ears. It means absolutely nothing.
You are queer as a three dollar bill if you have right earring, left ear you are cool.
---
It seems that the right ear is the one that means that. Sure, some think either ear on a man means that. Now, if you go by the old gay handkerchief codes, you can assume that either ear could mean gay, but that there is a distinction. The handkerchief code states that a handkerchief in the right pocket means you are the "receiver" (gay bottom) but that the left side means you are the giver (gay top). So maybe that applied to earrings as well. So the left ear was more popular since, even if someone used that to accuse them of being gay, it would mean a less marginalized type of gay person, since gay tops could pass for straight.
Nowadays, all of the above is moot. More heterosexual men wear earrings than gay men. Now that the gay community is out and more accepted, using earrings to hint that one is gay is mostly obsolete.
so people can tell if your striaght or gay I started with an earring in my left ear. Then I pierced my right ear & l got hooked.... cool. I decided I needed an earring in my right ear.
Great answer. I'm a staight man who wears an earring in my left ear. After I got my earring in my left ear, the bug bit me to pierce my right ear. It totally hit me. I had to get that earring in my right ear. I
most lads have earrings on there left ear.
if you are a guy and have earrings, it depends on what ear it's on, if its on the right ear your not, just for fashion and if it's on the left ear ( also called the gay ear if you have a earring on it) yes and if you have both on...... FO-SHO
It actually means nothing other than you were too lazy to get the other ear done. This whole left right gay not thing died back in the 70's. Today most males have both ears done either with rings or studs and the sexual orientation has nothing to do with your personal image or style sense.
Whichever you want. There's no such thing as a gay ear or anything like that :)
I have heard that in some social circles, a pierced right ear on a man indicates that he is gay, while a left earring indicates that he is a sailor (or just fashionable). Both ears pierced on a man doesn't tend to imply anything. Straight men may also opt for nipple piercings, tongue piercings, nose piercings, etc, without having people think they're gay. In other words, if you're male and really concerned that people will think of you as gay, avoid the right ear.
right
The left ear should be the correct ear to be pierced. If you get your left ear pierced your not gay if you get your right you are gay but if you get both it means nothing.
Unless they choose to wear them elsewhere they still wear then on there ring finger of the left hand.
Firstly males can get their ears pierced on what ever ear they want too. But stupidly people say it is the gay ear, but i think you should get it pierced on what ever ear you want too. no. for guys getting their ears peirced, if you peirce your left ear, it means you're straight. if you peirce your right ear, it means you're gay. if you peirce both your ears, it means you're bi. so go with the left ear to peirce
It's a probability that it is an old school piercing, left ear in males indicated they were not gay. However that's not the case any more because more and more males are getting both ears pierced and that whole gay not gay thing went out the door in the late 70's. That's also the same ear that sailors would get pierced once they achieved the status of ,"able bodied seaman".
