Is it good to be gay?

It's not just good, it's fantastic!
being gay is not a choice. So it is not good or evil. It's just who you are. Being a homophobe is evil.
The answer to this question depends on who you ask. Many conservatives would say no, it's horrible to be gay. Liberals would generally say that you are you are, and yeah, it's good. A lot of people are just in the middle, with an attitude along the lines of "it doesn't really matter, it's not good or bad."

Personally, I'm a liberal and I think it's neither good nor bad. You being gay is just a little, little part of who you are. It doesn't mean you're going to Hell - doesn't God love everyone? It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you, either. All research has shown that gay people are born gay, they're not diseased or anything. So basically, don't worry about it. You were born that you, as Gaga would say, and that is definitely a good thing. Don't change it.

If you define gay as being homosexual, I am sure that it's fun in some way, just like being heterosexual is fun because sex is a good thing. But sexuality is created by God for marriage between a man and a woman. That's not just a religious "rule" but it's a design for having the most fulfilling life.

If sexuallity is created by God, then he/she/it must have created homosexuallity. It is not a choice, we are all born the way we are and how much fun anyone has in life is to a great extent up to them. How they live their lives and what they get out of it.

So you're saying that God created not only every thing, but every action someone can take? Why would God intend for someone to do things against His own will? The choice/not choice debate is separate, and I've known people who have chosen to be gay.

This question is quite a tricky subject. In today's society, the socially accepted form of sexuality is that of heterosexuality (relations between men and women). This stems in a large part from the teachings that the major organized religions instill in the communal thought processes (especially the monotheistic religions Christianity, Judaism, and Islam). Religions provide their adherents moral guidelines to follow, and the subject of sex is explicitly explained regarding acceptable behavior and the behaviors that are unholy or sinful; homosexuality is always pronounced as an abominable act.

In the United States we find this to be easily proven. The U.S. was founded upon Judeo-Christian beliefs, thus creating the social interactions between people acceptable when they were acceptable by the moral base system. Judeo/Christian thought and beliefs explicitly describe homosexual acts and thoughts to be extremely sinful in nature, and warns that those engaging in them will never see the Kingdom of Heaven.

Due to this, homosexuality became a taboo topic...One that should not be accepted or tolerated. This led to the persecution of those who were brave enough to announce their sexuality or were caught and exposed as homosexuals. In the past, there were very few who would admit to their desires and true sexual identity. Slowly though, society has become a bit more tolerant (note I said tolerant, not accepting) of the homosexual community.

With that said, the tolerance is not widespread by any means. In many areas of the country, especially those with strong religious tendencies, homosexuals are still cast to the edges of society and harrassed both verbally and physically. Violence against homosexuals is not an uncommon occurence. The death of Matthew Sheppard is a prime example of this. Society does not make being gay an easy task in any way.

Unfortunately, it is not only society that can make the life of a homosexual difficult. The families of the gay man/woman can also make it extremely hard to embrace one's sexuality. Families often ostracize, ridicule, or disown gay members of their family, even if it is a mother's own child. This leads to many psychological issues that are deep seated in the mind and difficult to deal with.

So, with that said, being gay is not fun for many, many people. It is especially difficult when a person realizes they are gay and is forced to deal with accepting this alone because of the fear of being found out. Coming out (telling others) that you are gay is also an extremely hard thing to do, for fear of rejection and ridicule. There are many factors that make it very difficult...In fact, many gay people have wished they were straight (myself included) because life would be much easier (in regards to sex and relationships at least).

On the other hand, there are areas in the country where homosexuality is much more tolerated than it is elsewhere, mainly in large metropolis areas (ie New York, NY; Atlanta, GA). In these areas a gay person can embrace their sexuality and live life freely with little fear of reproach. In these areas being gay is much more enjoyable, and having a gay social life makes life much more enjoyable.

All the above must be considered in answering the question asked - being gay can be fun in the right situation, but the predominant environment is not conducive for an easy going lifestyle that most homosexuals long for.

Increasingly it is becoming more acceptable within societies, with some noticeable exceptions. Certain religions and sects do not accept it as do some countries.

Many societies and civilisations in the past have accepted homosexuality, and if not actually praised, then it did not attract the vilification that was seen only a few decades ago
