You seem to be laboring under the misconception that HIV is limited to homosexuals and that it is somehow related to same-sex marriage. This is wrong on both counts. HIV is not limited to homosexuals. HIV transmission between heterosexuals is orders of magnitude higher than among homosexuals if you look at actual numbers of new cases. Percentage wise it may be higher among homosexuals but that is misleading when the entire population affected by HIV is considered.HIV transmission should not even be considered in relation to same sex marriage. These are two entirely separate issues. Actually, one might anticipate that HIV transmission between homosexuals would DECREASE if homosexuals were allowed to legally establish long-term monogamous relationships. By legally preventing marriage, promiscuity would be expected to increase thereby increasing the number of sexual contacts and thereby the number of new cases.

To find an accurate % of male homosexuals in America that have HIV, all that is required is a large sample of men who identify themselves as such and have recently had an HIV test. Just divide the numerator (HIV infected men in the sample) by the denominator (sample size) to come up with the percentage. The exact number of gays in America is totally irrelevant. **** I don't think it's that simple. A large sample is not enough. It must be a REPRESENTATIVE sample (i.e., a sample of male homosexuals whose rate of infection is similar to that of all US male homosexuals). Taking a large sample isn't enough if the sample is sufficiently dissimilar to the population. Generally taking a large RANDOM sample will get you there, but that's very hard to do with homosexuals since there's no list of homosexuals to randomly sample from. You can't just go to random gay bars since gays who frequent random gay bars may not be representative of gays in general. And your suggestion of sampling homosexual males who have had recent HIV tests is a bigger problem still, since gays who get HIV tests are probably doing so because they are concerned that they be infected. Such a group is likely to have gays who engage in risky behavior over-represented in it, and gays who engage in risky behavior are (by definition) more likely to be HIV positive than are gays in general. All that said, I think the original answer was a dodge since, while we don't know how many gays there are in the US, there are estimates, and that's all that's really being asked for.

By giving tainted blood across the country, social unrest and threats, the DSM was changed to accommodate homosexuality. In many countries they were now pushed into considering talking ill about homosexuals as a hate crime. Spending intimate and non-intimate time with homosexuals infected with HIV or many other conditions carried by many homosexuals puts you in peril. Many feel this erosion of our moral, intellectual and spiritual standards is destroying our society, our values and all things we hold dear.

AIDS doesnt impact homosexuals any more than it does any other population living with HIV. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the virus that causes someone to develop AIDS. HIV is transmitted through contact with infected blood, semen, vaginal fluid or breast milk. Unprotected sex (oral, anal or vaginal) places a person at risk for infection. A contributing factor to the spread of HIV among gay men is that anal sex is the highest risk exposure for HIV transmission. Because historically gay men have not been able to live openly or cement long term relationships with marriage, it is more socially acceptable for them to have multiple partners over time. Substance use also plays a large roll in the transmission of HIV. Unfortunately, gays use substances directly related to HIV transmission (Crystal Meth, Ecstacy) at higher rates than the general population. Gays also use other substances at higher rates (alcohol/cocain) that effect decision making and inhibit the ability to use condoms correctly or make healthy decisions about selecting sexual partners.
