Large spills, particularly tanker spills, are visible from the sky. There is close monitoring of spills in the US Gulf of Mexico, for even small spills from tanker loading. However, not all accidental discharges are not reported in the US. See link.
Other countries may not report minor spills, particularly if they occur in on land and in remote areas where the environmental impact is limited. There has been efforts to increase international cooperation in reporting spills. See related links.

oil spill is when a boat or something else spills oil in the water or in the forests.a lot of oil spills happen when people drill for oil or when there's a leak somewhere they keep oil.
Because oil is such a valuable nonrenewable resource, for it to spill would cause gas prices to rise. When it spills, we are losing a lot of oil we could sell so we are losing money.

It can definitely contribute to oil spills.
Oil spills can damage many things. One oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico killed a lot of sea life. All the rescued animals were cleaned, but out of around 700 animals they saved, only 200 survived.
yes caboolture river has oil spills all the time it is very common for its oil spills
I have included some lists of where oil spills have occurred. Some very large oil spills occurred during wars (Kuwait-Iraq War, Iran-Iraq War, World War II), and these were intentional, so they do not show up on lists of accidental oil spills. Also, there are many different causes for oil spills. There are accidents associated with tankers, barges, pipelines, refineries, production platforms and drilling rigs occurring in many different countries. The list of oil spills differ. The list from 2009 does not include the BP oil spill. Some lists do not include smaller oil spills. The list from the tanker association includes spills from the transportation of oil, not the exploration, production and refining of crude oil. But all lists show that oil spills have occurred in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and South America. The US has a long history of oil spills as the US is one of the oldest countries producing and transporting crude oil. See related links.
This number would be impossible to determine for several reasons:There are a lot of unreported oil spills. Even if they could be reported there is no standard size or impact for spills that cause problemsA study to report on fish deaths would reauire weeks of time and many expertsFish come in many sizes. Of zooplankton is included the number of individual fish in an area becomes astronomicalWOuld fish killed by the cleanup, not the spill, be included. Would fish not harvested in an area if commercial fishing id curtailled be counted as a plus as those fish were "saved"
