It's the Knights of Labor union that included all workers in a single industry. The Knights of Labor was founded in 1869.
The Knights of Labor, founded in 1869, effectively dissolved in the early 20th century and is not active today as a distinct organization. While it played a significant role in labor movements during its time, its influence waned due to internal conflicts and the rise of other labor unions. Modern labor organizations and unions have evolved, drawing on the foundational ideas of the Knights of Labor, but they operate under different structures and names.
The Knights of Labor hoped it could gain improvements for workers primarily through Arbitration.
Terence V. Powderly was the Grand Master Workman of the Knights of Labor, during the height of the movement. Originally called the Noble and Holy Order of the Knights of Labor, the words Noble and Holy Order were dropped in 1882 to avoid any resemblance to freemasonry.
