Absolutely it was. There was a lot of racism in 1948, maybe even more than there is now, although it depends on where you live whether it is greater or lesser... or the same, just expressed differently.

In 1948 they still had segregation in many areas, and so black people and white people couldn't use the same bathrooms, or go to the same schools. Black people had to go to the back of the bus when they were on the same bus with white people.

And that is just in the U.S. Racism was alive and well in many, many other countries. Germany specifically... the war was over, but the hatred of Jews and others was not.

Hopefully, the world is getting better, and we are learning to hate other people less. ... but in some areas, and with some people, the hatred continues.
