One advantage is that it's renewable. Trees can be replanted and grown to replace those that are cut.

One disadvantage is that it provides less heat energy per unit than materials like coal.

Another is that you are killing trees and causing air pollution from burning it.

Biomass is usually vegetation that is grown quickly and then burnt. The energy released from the burning is converted to other kinds of energy, usually electricity. Wood is just as good as any other biomass, so long as it comes from sustainable plantations.

Advantages:

• Some kinds of wood grow quickly and are easily harvested.
• Biomass does not add to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, as it emits carbon that was recently removed through photosynthesis.
