In any society there is a functional entity called culture. Culture can be defined as a group of ways of life that are shared amongst the peoples of a society. Based on the different people groups that may occupy the same society there can be several cultures.

With that said, in order for a society to function or even remain a society, there must be a shared set of meanings that are practiced in the material and symbolic

areas of the society.

Functionality in a society revolves around shared meanings and values in important areas such as, but not to exclude or include any of them to be present for the society to exist:
