A transwoman is short for "transgender woman." That is a person who was assigned male at birth, but now outwardly identifies as a woman. Such a person may or may not have had surgery, hormones, etc. to change the physical sex.
A transwoman is not necessarily the same as a transsexual woman, since many women born with transsexualism refuse this label. They maintain they have/had transsexualism and are not transgendered, since the "trans" in "transwoman" is short for transgender. Persons with genuine transsexualism desire corrective surgery and complete assimilation into society as if they never had the condition, while most transgendered persons don't. Terms like "transwoman" and "T-girl" were created immediately after the TG takeover of the TS Community, since everyone was convinced the two separate communities could work together and help each other. However, the TS persons had Mainstream values and needs, while TG persons had mostly LGBT culture, values, and needs. Now most of the TS Community is reclaiming its Mainstream status and refuses to accept labels from TG and LGBT communities.
Transgender people are not made. It is something you will be born with.
Most transgender people who undergo transition use hormones.
People don't like the transgender thing
People are either born transgender or their not.
You're thinking of transgender people, not gay people. Gay people do not "become a girl" unless they are also transgender. Transgender people can be gay, straight, or anything else. For more information about the hormones that Transgender women take, click here.
There are many notable transgender people both alive and dead. Some of the most famous transgender individuals would be Amanda Lepore and Amanda Milan.
I think the US.
Yes.
They don't choose to be transgender, they just are. It's not a choice
There is no more transgender people now than there ever was before however it is more open and known about now...alot of people now feel comfortable with 'coming out' and letting people know they are transgender whereas before not many knew about it and it was highly frowned apon.
Transgender people are born either male or female. The transgender people feel that they were born in the wrong bodies and usually undergo a sex change operation.
Transgender women are real in terms of them existing. If one is asking about whether they are genuine women or not is up to personal interpretation. Some would consider them as being on par with non-transgender (cisgender) women, while others would consider them valid members of their own separate gender. Then of course there are people who do not think positively about transgender women.
